Prohibited Hazardous Commodities

Certain hazardous intermodal shipments are prohibited. (See the BNSF Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide, Prohibited Item, for a complete list of prohibited shipments.) You can also use this search tool for information on specific hazardous commodities.

The following hazardous intermodal shipments cannot be accepted by BNSF. Prohibited hazardous commodities vary by equipment (trailers, containers, bulk bladders (flexi-tanks) and tank containers).

Trailers and Containers

Any shipment tendered to BNSF containing these commodities (including residue) will be assessed a $10,000 charge and other applicable charges and the shipper will be notified to pick up the shipment.
